Barry's one to one session

Barry booked his session back in July and today was the day. The weather turned to blue skies and the predicted rains didn't turn up. I ran Barry through my skills check and found I needed to work on both body position and looking skills in all aspects of his riding and also I worked on the mental skills too.
The first technique we applied the skills to was as ever the drop technique and it didn't take Barry long to dial it. From there we moved to the skills trail and worked on linking the whole trail together over the next couple of hours. Pumping, rock gardens, steps, jumps and drops were all linked via braking areas to flat, bermed, off camber and switchback turns. A welcome break mid way for food was a good idea as he was tiring but on resuming he began linking the whole trail together.

Each run was faster and more controlled than before and the confidence grew and grew.
I moved onto the 6ft tabletop and gap jump and after a few corrections, Barry sailed over it with ease and even rode the gap jump a few times too!

I moved us onto riding down steep stuff and here I worked on his new body positioning and the control he felt stunned him. Even a near vert drop off proved no problem. We moved onto the pump and jump trail to link cornering, pumping and jumping together and really work on his trail energy skills.
Our session ended when I saw mental tiredness appear and we went to the Bull pub in the village to celebrate an awesome session and a great end to a fantastic week of coaching.
High5!
