Chris inquired about a group session at first but a late cancellation came up and he took it alone as his mates couldn't make it. I found partial footwork faults and also body and looking skills were missing, so I set to work. A small set up change made a big difference and off we went to apply his new mental and physical skill sets to the drop technique first. Chris wasted no time in riding all 3 of them so off we went to the skills trail. Pumping, rock gardens, steps, fly out jumps and drops were linked piece by piece to flat, bermed, off camber and switchback turns. We moved methodically down the trail until he was riding the whole trail and linking all 14 sections contained within it together by the identified braking areas. I worked on line choice when linking drops and corners together and the required braking.
Our session came to a close as Chris himself declared he was knackered so we cracked open a cold beer and toasted a great session.
High5 Chris!
Fantastic day, which is still amazing me, I could basically turn right Okish and push the front to get the wheel of the ground, that's it when we started, what was achieved in the day is above and beyond what I believed I could do.
ReplyDeleteI've been out for a ride today and can, with a smile on my face, confirm that its all coming together..I had a big problem with my sight on the trail and after reading in mags, hearing it from mates and being previously coached to look where you are going & down the trail, never really got it. My brain didn't know where I should look as down the trail was surely where I was looking? Without discussion, Tony understood this and gave be a key word, vanishing point, now, my brain has proper instruction to understand! So what does this mean on the trail, well that's the eureka moment I had while riding this morning, I can slow the trail down & give my self time to brake and steer without the trail rushing at me as it was when I was looking a metre in front of my wheel! So now I have found that I can SLOW the trail while travelling faster, which is fucking brilliant!
I am sure these eureka moments will keep coming as I practice and hone the skills Tony has taught me.I know its been said many times before but the man is a fucking genius and has very good coffee!
many thanks
Chris
