A father and two sons share a skills session

Robin, Lawie and Jon came to me for a skills session. They arrived as arranged and we chatted over a coffee to help them relax. The skills check revealed footwork, looking and body positioning faults collectively and I set to work. Once I had corrected their missing skills in the unweighting technique we moved to apply it on the drops. It didn't take them long to land perfectly and they used their new mental skills to decide whether to ride the larger ones or not.
A body position correction excersise for cornering followed and then we moved onto the skills trail itself. Pumping was first up and we used the gained speed to link in berms, flat, off camber and switchback turns. Rock gardens, fly out jumps, steps and drop offs. Halfway down the trail I could see they needed a break to digest the session so far and soon we resumed. All 3 of them got air on the fly out jump and soon they were riding the whole trail end to end.  Errors were now being self diagnosed pretty much and their control of the speed of the trail was enhanced by their new skills. As the session moved on I could see they were beginning to tire mentally as they were now making unforced errors so our session ended their to keep them safe. We celebrated the session with a cold beer in the sunshine, whilst the red kites circled above.
 Great session!
