developing Jolyon, Stephen and stu's singletrack skills
The guys turned up as arranged and I ran them through my skills check where I see what is present and also what's missing from their riding skills wise. After a few set up changes, I began working on Body positioning, Looking and footwork and also the 4 mental skills too.
We began with the drop technique and applied their new skill set to it. In no time at all they were flying off the drops and landing perfectly.
We moved onto the trail and worked hard on cornering and why the skills applied. We used pumping to gain speed from the trail and worked our way down the trail, linking flat, bermed, off camber and switchback corners. Rock gardens, steps, drops and fly out jumps were all linked using the correct braking areas.
We worked on line choice when riding drops into corners a lot and soon they began to feel controlled but also faster.
Finally they rode the trail end to end a few times and with each run they became more and more fluid and smooth. The speed came naturally as the skills became more of an unconscious action.
Great session.
