Harry bring his son Otto back for a session

Harry and Otto came to me for coaching last year and Harry wanted a session focused on Otto so I could develop Otto further but I also wanted to push Harry on too skills wise. I could see Otto had done the homework i had given him and We began with pumping and carrying speed through a berm. Later we added a second berm and rode the whole pump line into the berms. Their body positions was something i worked on as well as the looking. We took a break and resumed with the drop technique and I was able to work on Dads mental skills as well s teaching Otto to style it in the air. We then moved to the 6ft tabletop and whilst I worked on the effort and speed required in Otto to clear it I was also able to work on Harry's fear set too. Otto had a fear of gaps but soon he was sailing over it and soon styling that too. We ended our session liking drop offs into corners and after a few goes Otto was too tired to continue and called an end to an awesome session.

Singletrack skills session

I love public singletrack sessions as it's a group of riders who've never met with different expectations. I corrected their set ups and began working on their missing skills before working on applying the corrected skills sets to techniques needed in riding singletrack. Berms, flat, off camber and switchback corners, steps, upslopes, pumping , rock gardens and drop off were all ridden and linked together as well as riding steeper terrain.
Awesome session.

Working on Kevs riding.

We started with the skills checks, where i saw that kev was missing looking, body positioning and a bit of footwork from his skills sets. After putting these in place, and making some set up changes we went to work on cornering. We first used the grassy slope, and then used two corners. Drops were next, and i introduced the mental side of riding. He was soon flying off the largest drop and landing perfectly. We worked on the trail next. And spent the rest of the session linking both bermed and flat corners, rock gardens, fly outs, steps and drop offs. Each run was faster and more in control than the one before. Nice one kev. Get off that seat!

Rewiring Brian's brain

Brian has been coached before and as a world champion in another sport as a junior, he had loads of experience to refer to physically and also mentally. The skills check showed I needed to work on body positioning and looking and I knew Brian had a fear of gap jumps , but more of that later. We began with the drop technique and once corrected, He said it felt so natural to his old get weight back technique. We moved from drops to the jump technique and using a 6ft tabletop i worked on speed and effort required to clear the jump and moved on to the 6ft gap jump side too.
We worked hard on cornering and this made a massive difference to his control and confidence as we applied the skills set to the techniques I teach. We worked on pumping, absorbing, linking drops into corners and being more fluid and controlling a trail to become faster. We worked on a big drop off and used 2 very different techniques to ride the near vertical drop.
We then moved back to 2 berms we'd ridden earlier but the gap jump that followed was a step to far as Brian couldn't answer the mental skills questions positively at that time but more work on the 6ft gap and then onto an isolated dirt jump changed that and he was sailing the 7ft gap jump. A few clears and Brian called an end to the session after 5hrs of re wiring and left a vastly improved rider.
