Mtb Skills Building Blocks

Adrian and Dianne arrived for their session and They needed the foundation of riding off road to be rebuilt as they had little experience in mtbing. I found they needed work on looking and footwork, this later allowed me to correct their body positioning too. I worked on pedal placement and braking techniques which would pay dividends forever more in their riding. We  got air off some drops and using the barking technique they were both able to control the trail beyond landing. We worked on cornering and they soon had more control and speed than before. We linked pumping , 2 corners and a rock garden together and they were hardly pedaling at all by the end as they carried speed more efficiently . We worked on absorbing and pumping through sections of trail and carrying speed through 2 berms. I used berms as they aspire to ride trail centers and that style of corner is common place . Dianne was first to tire mentally but I was able to work on Adrian some more. He asked if I could show him how to get the rear wheel off the ground as scooping his feet never worked. I demonstrated and then rode over a log using the techniques i teach and he soon followed suit too! Amazing session guys.

Polishing Jock and Marissa's riding

What a session this turned into. Jock and Marissa arrived as arranged for their 2nd session with me and I began with basic cornering as I could see a body positioning error in their turns and then onto carrying speed through berms. They wanted to ride steeper terrain but that would come after we worked on linking drop offs into corners and they were amazed at the effect their new body position had. Onto a near vertical drop off and again the same controlled and easy out come blew them away.
We then moved to jumping and I worked on effort, speed and distance and worked on developing judgement using this. Marissa was flying easier than ever but her session had to end early as she had to pick her son up from school, so myself and Jock carried on. Jock used his mental skills to ride his first ever gap jump and the 6ft gap sailed beneath him and the shocked look on his face was a picture. A few more clears followed and it was time to move on. The 9ft gap jump he'd seen in the morning now was something he was faced with and after two demonstrations from myself at different speeds , Jock followed and cleared it too and the adrenaline soared through him and the shakes began. Two more clears followed and I knew he was knackered but had a little left . We moved to the woodwork as he was fearful of that style of riding and in the final 15 minutes of our session he'd rode a line he couldn't walk on when he saw it.
Amazing session and great people to hang out with.

Karen and Matt's session

Karen and Matt were recommended to me whilst on holiday in the alps. They wanted to work on cornering and maybe airtime.  The skills check showed me they needed work on looking and footwork, then later I could work on body positioning. We began with the drops and I worked on their mental skills here too and soon they could tell when it felt right or wrong and errors were already being self diagnosed.
I worked hard on their cornering in a variety of  different corners and when I worked on their body positioning it really changed and they flew through 2 linked berms.
Onto the skills trail and we worked on linking sections on a trail using the techniques that I teach and gradually they grew faster as their control of the trail grew too. We ended the session on riding steeper terrain before the heat of the day took it's toll and tiredness took over
 Great session
