Another group of guys from Bigfoot

After everyone arrived, we started with the skills checks where we explained, and corrected the physicals skills within the techniques needed in riding. We also made some set up changes, before moving onto drops. The mental skills set was explained, and each rider was soon riding off a drop of their choice, landing perfectly, with much more comfort and control than before. We then did a bit of work on cornering, and had them linking two corners together to practice cornering in both directions. We moved over to the trail, where we had them riding the first half straight away. We then added the fly out, where we taught them to jump, followed by a step, and finally linking drops into corners. We workes on jumping on the tabletop next, where we controlled each riders speed individually, to find their own clearance point. Everyone was soon riding the 6ft tabletop and gap jump next to it! We moved up to the pump and jump trail, where we talked them through pumping, and how it allows you to gain speed in order to jump. Our session came to an end here due to mental tiredness, and they where choosing which sections to pump or jump, linking this with two corners, and some even rode the larger gap jump that followed. Great work guys!

Tom and Alice on their pre holiday skills session

I have coached Tom and Alice before and they returned for a pre alps trip tune up. I worked on their cornering as I quickly discovered body position errors had crept in so we worked on that using two berms. From there we moved to the skills trail to work on multiple sections on the trail and this enable them to not over focus on a particular corner.
We worked on linking drops into corners too before moving on to jumping. I used the 6ft tabletop and gap jump and worked on their skills to gain more height and therefore distance for a given speed and soon they were flying. From there we worked on linking the trail above the two berms and also the 7ft gap jump that was after them. I worked hard on Alice's mental skills here too as her normal ease at jumping was affected by this particular section but a move to another trail and a different gap jump saw her back to normal and flying the 1st gap and Tom wasn't happy there and linked the 9ft gap into the line too.
The heat of the day was dampened by the wind but a move to another trail was in order an we spent the final hour on that linking sections on a steeper, faster trail. Cracking session

Flying high with Matt

Matt came to me wanting to build confidence in his jumping and dropping. After the skills checks, where i explained the physical and mental skills set, i showed him the drops. He was quickly riding off the largest drop perfectly. I worked on cornering, before linking drops into corners. I then showed him the correct technique for jumping on the flyout, and he took it under his belt very quickly. I showed him the top of the trail, and soon had him riding top to bottom. I could see he was a natural to jumping, so i took him to the pump and jump trail, where he was jumping, pumping and manualing through sections of his choice. He linked this with the two corners and gap jump that followed. I showed him another larger gap jump, which he sailed over with ease. I took him onto some northshore, and in the space of the next hour, had him linking wooden gap jumps, with ladder drops, dirt gap jumps, higher ladders and bigger drops. Our session ended on the log booter, which he rode nicely, but decided to call an end to a brilliant session. Great improvements Matt!
